A student in Cebu City won P1,000,000 worth of Bitcoin in his crypto wallet on the Maya app.
The billboard with the winner’s name, Reinzel C. is written, has spread across the country, asking him to check his cryptocurrency wallet.
When asked how he earned such large money, Reinzel stated that he is a loyal user of the money app. He also admitted to using his account to purchase food online.
He shared that he didn’t join any contest or promo. But a few days before the billboard appeared, he mention that he use his mobile number on Maya when he purchased order from a fastfood chain.
Reinzel said,
“Hindi ako sumali sa kahit na anong contest o promo. Pero ilang araw bago lumitaw ang mga billboard, naaalala kong ginamit ko ang Maya mobile number ko sa pagbabayad ng order ko sa McDo.”
After news came out about Reinzel winning such a huge amount, many were surprised as some of them also received a free Bitcoin from Maya.
Last April, Maya (formerly PayMaya) launched its Crypto feature. Users may use the app to purchase, trade, and keep cryptocurrencies for as little as pesos. It also holds a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) license from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP), making it safe to buy and sell crypto assets using the Maya app. Bitcoin is one of the cryptocurrencies available via Maya’s Crypto function.
