Former basketball player and actor Maoi Roca p4ssed 4way this Friday morning, January 14. This was due to the complications from his di4betes.
Maoi was a member of the La Salle men’s basketball team from 1994 to 1998. He also belonged to the Batangas Blades in the former MBA from 1999 to 2000. He was also part of the PBA draft in 2001 under the Tanduay team.
Because of his height and good looks, apart from being a basketball player, Maoi also entered the showbiz industry. He appeared in the ABC5 top-rating gag show ‘Tropang Trumpa’ in the mid-90s, which later became known as ‘Bubble Gang’ when it moved to GMA-7.
Maoi often shared his illn3ss and what he go through due to his d1sease last year until he p4ssed away.
His sudden d3ath surprised many people, including his coaches, former teammates, showbiz personalities, friends, and his fans.
His coaches and former teammates sent messages and condolences to Maoi’s family.
Singer Rico Blanco was among those who said farewell to Maoi, whom he described the former basketball star and actor as a nice, considerate, and cheerful friend.
Former La Salle player and currently Meralco deputy coach Luigi Trillo described him as “one of the nicest and happiest teammates we had.”
Meanwhile, many of his fans expressed their sympathy for Maoi’s sudden d3ath.
